Mairead Sharry is a talented, gifted multi faceted artist. Mairead is a knitter, a weaver, a spinner, a felter, a painter, an author and she is also an awfully generous, nice and fun woman. Mairead has just released the most charming book called “Sive and the story of the Aran Sweater” which she wrote and illustrated herself. Yesterday this little gem dropped in through my letterbox as a present from Mairead and I adore the book!
There is a lovely poem running through the whole book and a sweet story about Sive and her visit to Inishere, one of the Aran Islands off the West coast of Co Galway. The story of how Sive comes to be on the island is one of wonder as is the beautiful illustrations running through the book of how Sive comes to be given a handspun, hand died, hand knit Aran Sweater made especially for her. The book is a lovely little adventure and it even has a handwritten stitch pattern in Irish in the back.
It’s magical, just like Mairead herself!
