Im retiring this year and would like to take up knitting as a hobby, I see you have a class in Lisburn library, if I came along to it what would I need to bring as regards materials and fee.
    Thank you
    Regards
    Mari

  2. Irene says:

Mari, the groups listed on this particular page of my website are all knitting groups that meet around the country.
I am not sure that they all meet still, but to the best of my knowledge they do. The way it usually work is that you just show up with your handicraft and join the group. There is normally no tuition at groups unless a tutor has been brought in to teach a specific task. It is usually a social yarn group and everybody are welcome – yarnies are a social bunch.
I am sure the Lisburn group are more than willing to help you along! Just bring yarn and needles to the next meeting. If you feel you need a class, try your local yarn store, they often have classes available.
Enjoy your retirement and not least that you have the time to have fun with your new hobby.
    Have fun,
    Irene

  3. Kathryn says:

    Hi mari

I am a member of the Lisburn knitting group (social events co-ordinator and bringer of buns). we don’t charge a fee and we don’t give formal lessons, but we have lots of members who are experienced in teaching both knitting and crochet. just come along with some brightly coloured DK and some size 4mm needles and we should be able to get you started! we’d love to see you

    Kathryn

    Hi Irene,
Do you know of anyone willing to teach knitting & crochet skills at beginners, intermediate & advanced levels. I want to set up workshops in Whitehead, county antrim but finding it difficult to get local tutors. I am happy to provide costs of tuition, venue & if needed materials. I am also interested in running works shops in other crafts

    Kind regards,
    Louise

  6. Irene says:

Louise, I can’t help you locally as such. But I might be able to help you assemble a group of yarn crafters for one off workshops if that is of interest? I will send you a mail this evening about details.

  7. Charley says:

Hi Charley, great to hear that you knit! You will have to contact the Longford group together with your mother to find out if they have an age limit.
