The Christmas Season Is Kicked Off

Today we had our wonderful Christmas Spirit Fair at the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely. All the stallholders had brought superb goods which they presented in the most lovely cheerful manner and we had a steady stream of people come through the doors all day long. I just thought I would share a few pictures from the day before I grab the hook for a bit of recreational crochet.

Christimas Spirit Fair in Tinahely

My friend Margarete and I have organised a Christmas Spirit Fair at the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely for some years and this year is no exception. We have beautiful stalls with all sorts of splendid crafts and perhaps we will see you there too.

If nothing else, come along and get into the spirit of Christmas with a cuppa and a chat with your friends at the little café we will have open all day long. If you do come along, please come and say hello!

True Christmas Spirit

Yesterday saw our Sixth annual Christmas Spirit Fair at Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely, and what a spirit it was! The un-gritted mountain roads were black ice treacherous making movement fairly lethal. Never mind; Wicklow people are very special spirits as it turned out.

IMG_8795small Most of the stall holders managed to make their way to the spectacular venue, they came by hook and crook and some managed to arrive on willpower alone. Wonderful people braved the roads in defiance to get to the fair, including our very own Nicknit with lovely family.

IMG_8785smallUnfortunately, we were missing no less than four stallholders including my dear friend and co-host, who was stuck up the mountains and whose stall was to be in aid of our local KARE centre. They lost all the plants to frost. A great shame for all four, but it was an even greater shame for the punters that did manage to get there…

IMG_8798smallWe were lucky enough to have most of our usual kind and happy local patrons visit in spite of the road conditions, among them were mountain dwellers that made it down in their 4x4s, good friends, lovely people. Some walked, some nearly crawled, but they came and made the day and we are all very grateful and hope for a repeat performance next year.

Many random acts of kindness were performed all day.
That’s The Spirit

Special thanks to Tina who stepped in at extremely short notice and saved the day by keeping us all topped up with ‘cuppas’ galore!

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Christmas Fair Preparations

Christmas Fair webpage 2010smallThis year we will have our 6th annual Christmas Spirit Fair at Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely. My hook is red hot while I run off hats and scarves and cowls and mittens and little flowers and nice woollies for my stall. I’m sure the other stall holders are equally busy with their production.

This year we will have about 15 stalls, it’s a bit of a squeeze but I’m sure they will all fit in. We are going to use all available space and create a festive Christmas feel in the entire house.

I recommend you come along, if nothing else, come along and enjoy the atmosphere and meet and greet your friends before the final lap of hectic activity kicks in in the second half of the Christmas month. You might even pick up the presents while you are there in a relaxed and happy atmosphere.

The stall holders are all local artists and crafts people: KARE with mixed crafts, artist Sinead Ryan with soaps and handmade cards, potter Christien Van Bussel and her woodturning group, Kate Gibbons with her cool jewellery, Collette will bring yummy baking, Rose Sharpe with her quirky pottery, Declan Kinsella with his precious trees, Irene Lundgaard with my winter woollies, Senan O’Brien with his stunning Tinahely Christmas cards and pretty Christmas Puddings, Mary Sheridan with her mixed crafts, Catherine Ryan with her fantastic prints, Sue Wardell with her healthy honey, Pauline Larkin with her hand knitted Teddies, Sharon Murphy with her pretty silver and beadwork and Anita will have a steady supply of treats with coffee and tea throughout the day.

Christmas Fair Prepare

I am busy making hats and scarves and fun little flowers for the Christmas Spirit Fair in the Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre this coming Sunday December 13th. The doors will open to the punters at 11 to 5 and a Christmas variety of pretty, locally made goods will be on offer. There will be wood turning, ornaments, honey, jewellery, pottery, knitwear and much more. There will even be refreshments available and a raffle in aid of the local Senior Citizen Christmas Dinner too.

I just spoke to my accomplished and I think we have matters quite well under control… I think… I really do!

Hyperbolic Skinny Scarves

I am working on a bunch of ruffled skinny scarves for the Christmas Spirit Market in Tinahely on Sunday December 13th. It’s great fun and I find the combination of Artesano Aran weight, a size 8 mm hook and the hyperbolic technique works a treat. I finish each off with mohair for added effect. IMG_7343

I am combining the making of the scarves whith focusing on the three workshops on the Irish Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef that I am doing at The Science Gallery on Sunday December 6th, there are still (FREE) tickets available and they can be booked here.

You are invited to come along to Hypberbolic Day at The Yarn Room on Friday December 4th from 10 – 5.30 and make your own contribution of crochet for the Irish Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef.

The scarves are colourful for the winter and fun to make, they are nice and snug and warm and soft to wear! What’s not to like?
